Hemsilvia-C can be used to overcome nutritional deficiencies and also provide extra protection when needed.

The triumvirate of Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 and Zinc is unique in its combined effect. It plays a role in normal growth, development and immunity. These tablets can not only be used ot overcome deficiency, but also be used as a health supplement in patients with autoimmune disorders, malabsorptive conditions, or those with compromised immunity (long-term steroid use, cancer patients, etc.). Hemsilvia-C can also be recommended in liver disease and kidney failure where vitamin D deficiency is very commonly seen. It also improves the antioxidant capacity of the body and helps ot fight infections associated with these illnesses.

Vitamin C:
Vitamin C or Ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin naturally found in fresh fruits and vegetables. However, it is a very unstable and highly volatile vitamin which is lost on exposure to heat and air. In the times of convenience foods and frozen fruits, it is difficult to consume the required amount of vitamin C. This may lead to Vitamin C deficiency called “Scurvy” which is characterised by bleeding gums, poor wound healing and pinpoint hemorrhages on the skin. The suggested EAR of Vitamin C is 55-66 mg per day. Hemsilvia-C contains 100 mg Vitamin C, the therapeutic dose required to overcome Vitamin C deficiency. Apart from this, they can also help in the following functions of Vitamin C:
A. Collagen synthesis: Collagen is the main structural protein of the body, synthesised by combining various amino acids present abundantly in blood vessels, tendons, ligaments, between organs and in skin layers. Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid plays an important role in the functioning of 2 key enzymes in Collagen synthesis: Prolyl Hydroxylase &Lysyl Hydroxylase. Vitamin C acts as an essential co-factor for the working of these enzymes in the process of collagen synthesis.
B. Wound healing: Vitamin C plays a role in all phases of wound healing. In the first phase (inflammatory phase) it helps in clearing out the infectious, foreign substances and acts as an antioxidant by preventing free radical damage. In the second (proliferative) phase, it helps in synthesis, secretion, maturation, and degradation of the collagen layer that develops over a wound. A deficiency of Vitamin C leads to delayed wound healing and prolonged bleeding. Hemsilvia-C helps in controlling this, and other aspects of Vitamin C deficiency as it contains Ascorbic acid in therapeutic dose.
C. Skin health: Vitamin C helps to fight photodamage and delays wrinkling of skin. It may also be useful against acne and reduce inflammatory lesions on the skin. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and protects the skin cells against harmful ultraviolet radiation. Since it also plays a role in collagen synthesis, it helps to maintain a soft, supple skin. Hemsilvia-C Tablets can be a beneficial addition in terms of maintaining healthy skin.
D. Maintaining integrity of blood vessels: Collagen is present in the walls of blood vessels and vitamin C is an integral part of Collagen synthesis. Vitamin C deficiency leads to fragile and brittle blood capillaries. This causes pinpoint hemorrhages on the surface of the skin, manifesting as tiny red dots called “Petechiae”. Vitamin C supplementation in therapeutic doses, such as in Hemsilvia-C helps to minimise the occurrence of these.
E. Dental health: Vitamin C maintains the dental support structure of gums, bones, ligaments, etc. This is mainly because it improves collagen synthesis. Vitamin C deficiency often presents itself with bleeding gums and loss of teeth in some cases.

Hemsilvia-C contains Vitamin C in therapeutic doses, enough to reduce deficiency symptoms. It also has an immune-boosting property as Vitamin C is a popular antioxidant and fights against free radical damage in the body.

Vitamin D3:
Vitamin D3 or Cholecalciferol is the bioactive form of a unique, fat-soluble vitamin which functions as a vitamin as well as a hormone. The main source of vitamin D is sunlight. Sunlight activates the production of Vitamin D by stimulating the cholesterol cells on your skin surface. Before it becomes bioactive, Vitamin D from the skin undergoes activation in 2 steps- first in the liver, then in the kidneys. Deficiency of Vitamin D is associated with weak bones and increased risk of developing certain diseases. Deficiency of Vitamin D3 is treated and maintenance of Vitamin D3 levels is achieved with a dose of 60,000 IU (International Units) per month, which amounts to 2000 IU per day. Hemsilvia-C Tablet contains 2000 IU of Vitamin D3, making it a good choice for treating Vitamin D deficiency and can also be used as a maintenance dose, taken on a daily basis.
Hemsilvia-C Tablets can boost the following roles of Vitamin D3:
A. Maintaining blood levels of Calcium: This is the first and foremost function of Vitamin D3 in the body. It plays a role in absorption, metabolization and deposition of Calcium and Phosphorus into the bones. In case of low levels of Calcium in blood, it increases the efficiency of Calcium absorption from the intestines and leeches Calcium from the bones into the blood.
B. Bone health: A vitamin D3 deficiency often manifests as low Calcium levels in blood and joint aches. As mentioned earlier, if the levels of Calcium in blood drops, Vitamin D3 works to leach Calcium of the bones. And if a Vitamin D deficiency exists, enough Calcium and Phosphorus does not get deposited into the bones. This makes the bones softer, weaker, and more prone to fractures.
C. Immune response: Vitamin D3 has an important role in mediating immune response of the body to pathogens. All immune cells in our body have a vitamin D receptor on their surface, showing how important vitamin D is for immunity. A Vitamin D3 deficiency is associated with autoimmune disorders and susceptibility to acquiring infections. The dose of 2000 IU in Hemsilvia-C, taken regularly, amounts to 60,000 IU of Vitamin D3 monthly, which is the standard therapeutic dose. This makes it a worthy addition in patients with compromised immunity or those who are at risk of developing autoimmune disorders.
D. Prevention of various diseases: Recent research as shown a link between low levels of vitamin D3 and early development of lifestyle diseases such as Diabetes and Hypertension as well as some types of cancers.
Use of Hemsilvia-C in vulnerable groups and sick individuals: Population groups who may be vulnerable to Vitamin D deficiency include elderly, obese individuals, and people with limited exposure to sunlight. Hemsilvia-C can be used regularly in these population groups to prevent and treat any underlying Calcium and/or Vitamin D deficiency. People suffering from kidney failure, malabsorptive disorders and liver failure are at high risk of developing Vitamin D deficiency. Use of steroids is also associated with vitamin D deficiency. Thus, it is important to check vitamin D levels in these groups and supplement it if necessary. Hemsilvia-C is a good choice as it provides a much-needed antioxidant boost along with Vitamin D3.
Zinc:
Zinc is an essential mineral in the human body which cannot be synthesised by the body and has to be obtained from food or supplements. It has many functions in the body, having far-reaching effects from development of taste to DNA synthesis. It exerts most of its effects as a co-factor for enzyme systems. The RDA for Zinc is 11-14 mg per day. One Hemsilvia-C Tablet contains 25 mg of Zinc, almost double that of RDA, thus making it a good choice to overcome Zinc deficiency. Zinc deficiency is usually not isolated and is present in an overall state of malnutrition. However, zinc supplementation alone has shown tremendous improvements in quality of life and symptoms of malnourished individuals.
Hemsilvia-C tablets can help boost the following functions of Zinc:
A. Protein synthesis: Synthesis of any protein in our body occurs when a particular gene gets activated. Zinc is also present in the structure of ribosomes- the site for protein synthesis in our cells.
B. Gene expression: Gene expression starts with DNA replication and transcription. This process involves certain enzymes collectively known as “Zinc metalloproteins”. These enzymes are dependent on presence of Zinc to be activated and carry on the process of gene expression. Thus, zinc becomes an important part of gene expression in the body.
C. DNA Synthesis: Zinc plays an important role in the process of protein synthesis in the body. And the most important protein in our body is our genetic material i.e. our DNA. Zinc is an indispensable part of the enzyme system responsible DNA synthesis. It is also important for DNA replication, which takes place during cell division i.e. growth and multiplication and during gene expression.
D. Immune function: Zinc is known to play a central role in the immune system, especially non-specific immunity. Non-specific immunity is mediated by neutrophils and Natural Killer Cells. These cells are activated in response to presence of any pathogen. It also plays a role in the signalling between cells of the immune system.
E. Wound healing: Zinc, along with Vitamin C plays a very important role in the cascade of reaction which cause wound healing and formation of the collagen plaque on the wound. Collagen is a type of protein, which again requires Zinc for its synthesis on a cellular level.
F. Growth and development: Research has shown that Zinc plays a role in cell growth, differentiation and cell metabolism. Zinc deficiency in children often leads to growth retardation, malnutrition, taste alterations and lowered immunity. Research has shown that Zinc supplementation also enhanced activity of Growth hormone and testosterone, which are important for normal development of the body.

Hemsilvia-C Tablet contains 25 mg of Zinc, an appropriate dose to overcome underlying Zinc deficiency and also boost the above functions, to provide better immunity and promote normal growth.
